The Board of Directors of Wema Bank Plc, a mid-sized Nigerian lender, has appointed Ademola Adebise as the Deputy Managing Director of the bank, according to a statement released by the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Thursday. Wema Bank said Adebise’s appointment was announced at a retreat held recently in Lagos and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed his appointment.

As Deputy Managing Director, Wema Bank said Adebise will oversee the bank’s Corporate and Business Directorate, covering corporate banking, treasury & financial institution, south business group (South-South and South-East) and business support division.

Prior to this appointment, Adebise was the Executive Director in charge of the bank’s Corporate & South Directorate. He has over 28 years’ experience in the banking industry (including four years in management consulting), working in diverse areas such as information technology, financial control & strategic planning, treasury, corporate banking, risk management and performance management.

Before joining Wema Bank, Adebise was Head, Finance & Performance Management Practice at Accenture (Lagos Office) where he led various projects for banks in business process reengineering, information technology and risk management. Adebise holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos and an MBA from the Lagos Business School. He is an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School. Adebise also serves on the board of AIICO Insurance Plc, AIICO Pensions Management Limited, and FITC'.
