The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Babatunde Fowler as chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Fowler, who has been in acting capacity since he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 20, was confirmed on Tuesday, the day after the Federal Executive Council approved a N6 trillion budget proposal for 2016 with a reduced oil benchmark of $38.

Before his appointment by President Buhari, Mr. Fowler was the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2015.

Fowler is the first substantive Chairman of FIRS since the departure of Ifueko Omogui-Okauru in 2012.
