Quantum Global names Mthuli Ncube as Head of Research

Quantum Global, an Africa-focused private equity firm, announced today the appointment of Prof. Mthuli Ncube as the Head of Quantum Global Research Lab (QGRL), the company’s research arm.

The Swiss-based company said Ncube’s appointment is part of its “Africa for Africa” plan to recruit finance experts from across the continent to expand the company’s footprint in new African markets.

“Mthuli’s vast experience and background in the area of research and macroeconomics further strengthens QGRL’s research value proposition,” said Jean-Claude Bastos de Morais, Founder and Chairman of Quantum Global Group. “We believe that he will have an immediate impact on our ability to provide leading-edge insights to our clients, and tremendous long-term impact on shaping our investment strategy across key African markets.”

Ncube, a Zimbabwean-born South African national, joins Quantum Global from the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, where he was Professor of Public Policy. He was previously the Chief Economist and Vice President at the African Development Bank.

In his 25-year career, Ncube has held several positions in a variety of educational & research institutions and investment companies. He has served as the Dean and Professor of Finance at the Wits Business School, Johannesburg and Portfolio Manager and Head of Asset Allocation Strategy at Investec Asset Management. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Founded in 2003, Quantum Global is an international group of companies active in the areas of private equity investments, investment management, private wealth management, macroeconomic research and econometric modelling. The company’s private equity arm manages a family of funds targeting direct investments in Africa in the sectors of agriculture, healthcare, hotels, infrastructure, mining and timber.
