The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria (CIS). This follows his induction in December 2017 as an Associate Member of the CIS, the first CEO of the NSE to receive such honour.

The investiture ceremony, and the 50th birthday dinner of the CEO, took place on Friday at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Onyema marked his golden jubilee on Sunday.

The CIS, established by the of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers Act of 1992, is responsible for providing training and professional certification for stockbrokers and other securities and investment professionals in Nigeria.

“Oscar’s meteoric rise to the highest level of our profession is the outcome of his transformative thought leadership that has not only impacted the Nigerian Stock Exchange, but the entire capital market ecosystem,” said the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the CIS, Dapo Adekoje, adding that these same exemplary attributes made Onyema subject himself to the rigours of the CIS professional examination, which he passed very well.

Onyema expressed gratitude to the CIS and reiterated his determination to project the best image of the institute by ensuring adherence to the ethics of the profession.

“Although I have stock brokering license in the US and Associate membership of CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment) in the UK, I cherish this one because it’s from my native land,” said Onyema. “I therefore pledge to continue to work with the Institute towards sustainable development of the capital market and the Nigerian economy in general.”

Onyema, who joined the bourse in 2011, also received the Special Recognition Award for Transformational Leadership in the Nigerian Capital Market at the Business Day Top 25 CEOs Awards 2018.
