PayPal extends operations to Kenya in partnership with M-PESA

PayPal stated that the arrangement will also enable Kenyan customers to buy items from global PayPal merchants and sell items worldwide.
PayPal Holdings Inc., today, announced its partnership with M-PESA, a Kenyan digital payments provider.
Paypal’s General Manager for Middle East, Africa and Russia, Efi Dahan, in a release said, “PayPal’s collaboration with M-PESA is part of the company’s long-term strategy to enable e-commerce and democratize financial services on the African continent.”
The new partnership will allow Kenyan consumers to transfer money between their PayPal and M-PESA accounts. M-PESA operates in Kenya and Tanzania.
PayPal stated that the arrangement will also enable Kenyan customers to buy items from global PayPal merchants and sell items worldwide.
Financial-technology giants, such as PayPal, are constantly making global push to gain exposure into new regions.
According to MarketWatch, Ant Financial, an Alibaba Group Holding Limited affiliate, is also trying to gain ground in India. Both Ant and Alibaba are stakeholders in Paytm Payments Bank, a prominent Indian industry player. Ant has dominance in China, Korea, and Japan.
