MainOne, a connectivity and data centre solution provider in West Africa, has launched its “Digital Lagos: Broadband for All” campaign. The Digital Lagos initiative is aimed at enabling the digital transformation of Lagos State through the deployment of broadband infrastructure across the state.
In the next two to three years, MainOne will invest more than ₦25 billion towards developing the critical fibre optic infrastructure that will enable broadband services to be available across Lagos.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Funke Opeke, CEO of MainOne, said the company is interested in collaborating with the Lagos State Government and all other relevant stakeholders to build a Digital Lagos and help citizens from all walks of life realize the benefits of sustainable economic growth, modernized education and improved quality of life.

MainOne, in a statement released on Wednesday, said its ambition for a Digital Lagos is inspired by the vision of the Governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who noted that “technology will improve the rule of law, education, ease of doing business and government processes.”
According to Opeke, MainOne has pioneered investment in critical internet-enabling infrastructure across West Africa, Nigeria and Lagos. To date, the company has invested more than ₦120 billion and proven its capabilities in expanding and densifying localized fibre networks in neighbouring Ogun and Edo States by deploying up to 1,000 kilometres of fibre network in partnership with Facebook.
“As the licensed Infraco for Lagos zone, the network to be built by MainOne through the Digital Lagos initiative would provide essential connectivity to critical state institutions including over 300 government agencies, up to 10,000 state CCTV locations, telecoms and internet service providers, public Wi-Fi hotspots and smart city components or Internet of Things (IoT) devices,” Opeke said.
Currently, MainOne 700-kilometre network covers major centres in Lagos and the startup cluster in Yaba. MainOne has also provided connectivity for startups such as Andela, Co-Creation Hub, Paga, Flutterwave and others that have cumulatively raised up to $500 million in foreign direct investment for Nigeria.
