Ocean Network Express launches new Mediterranean–West Africa service
News Highlight
The launch comes amid rising demand for reliable shipping connections between West Africa and global trade hubs.
Ocean Network Express (ONE), one of the world’s leading container shipping companies, has announced the launch of its new Mediterranean Africa Express Service (MAX), designed to strengthen direct global connections for customers in West Africa.
The MAX service will operate on a weekly rotation covering Algeciras, Tangier, Dakar, Tema, Lekki (Lagos), and Abidjan, before returning to Algeciras. This dedicated route provides exporters and importers in Nigeria and across West Africa with reliable access to international markets through ONE’s established Mediterranean hub network.
For Nigeria, the inclusion of Lekki Port in Lagos as a key stop on the MAX rotation is particularly significant. Lekki is emerging as a major deep-sea port capable of handling large vessels, and its integration into ONE’s global network is expected to boost Nigeria’s trade competitiveness. Customers will benefit from faster, more dependable connections to major markets in East Asia, Northern Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, North America, and Latin America.
The launch comes amid rising demand for reliable shipping connections between West Africa and global trade hubs. Shippers are increasingly seeking flexible routing options and dependable transit times to manage complex supply chains. By linking West Africa directly to ONE’s wider global network, the MAX service simplifies cargo movements and enhances supply chain resilience.
“We are committed to investment and growth in Africa, said Mr Hosaka, Managing Director of ONE (Europe). “The MAX service is a vital addition to our network, strengthening the links between West Africa and key global trade routes while providing our customers with seamless access to ONE’s extensive international network.”
Headquartered in Singapore, Ocean Network Express operates a fleet of more than 280 vessels with a total capacity exceeding 2.2 million TEUs, serving over 120 countries worldwide. The MAX service officially commences on 7 July 2026, with schedules available on ONE’s website.
This development positions Nigeria and West Africa more firmly within global supply chains, offering exporters and importers new opportunities to expand their reach.
