NSE’s All Share Index rises by 1.39 per cent

The main index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange – the All Share Index – rose for the second consecutive week during the trading week that ended on Friday, September 23.
The index closed at 28,247.07 points, up 1.39 per cent from 27,858.48 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-to-date basis, the index has lost 1.38 per cent of its value. Market capitalization also appreciated by 1.39 per cent on Friday to close at N9.703 trillion compared with N9.57 trillion recorded in the previous week.
On the gainer’s chart, the top five most appreciated stocks last week were Conoil, which rose 33.48 per cent to close at N42.50; Cutix, which appreciated by 19.41 per cent to N2.03; Total Nigeria, which rose 18 per cent to close at N295; Oando’s stock rose 15.29 per cent to close at N5.88; while Cadbury Nigeria closed at N15.75 having appreciated by14.13 per cent.
On the loser’s chart, the top five most depreciated stocks were Caverton Group, which fell 13.22 per cent to close at N1.05; Neimeth Pharmaceuticals, which declined by 12.96 per cent to close at 94 kobo; Beta Glass Company fell 9.73 per cent to N34.90; GT Bank’s stock depreciated by 7.25 per cent to N25.09; and Guinness Nigeria, which fell 7.01 per cent to N93.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 4.177 billion shares which traded in 9,805 deals and valued at N9.788 billion. The sector contributed 96.45 per cent and 58.25 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 65.533 million shares worth N5.017 billion and traded in 2,855 deals. In the third place was the Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 31.751 million shares traded in 594 deals and valued at N125.102 million.
The top three most traded equities – Great Nigerian Insurance, FCMB Group, and Diamond Bank – accounted for 3.299 billion shares worth N3.704 billion and traded in 1,308 deals. The equities contributed 76.18 per cent and 22.04 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
