NSE’s All Share Index rises by 1.02 per cent

The main index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange – the All Share Index – rose by 1.02 per cent during the trading week ended on Friday, September 16.

The index rose to 27,858.48 points last week from 27,577.52 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-to-date basis, the index has lost 2.74 per cent of its value. Market capitalization also rose 1.02 per cent to close at N9.57 trillion compared with N9.473 trillion in the previous week.

On the gainer’s chart, the top five most appreciated stocks last week were: Conoil, which rose 33.84 per cent to close at N31.84; Unilever Nigeria, which rose 14.23 per cent to close at N46; Africa Prudential Registrars appreciated by 13.71 per cent to N2.82; Cutix stock rose 5.59 per cent to N1.7; and International Breweries, which appreciated by 5.26 per cent to close at N20.

On the loser’s chart, the top five most depreciated stocks were: Neimeth Pharmaceuticals, which fell 8.47 per cent to close at N1.08; Aiico Insurance depreciated by 7.46 per cent to 62 kobo; Transcorp’s stock fell 7.14 per cent to N1.04; UBA’s stock depreciated by 6.87 per cent to N4.2; and FCMB Group, which fell 6.54 per cent to close at N1.

The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 517.964 million shares traded in 5,931 deals and valued at N2.933 billion. The sector contributed 84.70 per cent and 53.37 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 30.470 million shares worth N1.488 billion and traded in 1,561 deals. In third place was the Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 27.836 million shares worth N55.012 million and traded in 395 deals.

The three most traded equities – FCMB Group, FBN Holdings, and Guaranty Trust Bank – accounted for 241.961 million shares valued at N1.895 billion and traded in 2,242 deals, contributing 39.57 per cent and 34.49 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
