Nigerian telco deploys Cambium Networks solution to expand broadband access
News Highlight
According to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country's broadband penetration reached 39.58 per cent in February 2020.
Tizeti Network Limited, Nigeria's fastest growing internet service provider (ISP) with more than 1.5 million users, is using an end-to-end wireless fabric solution provided by Cambium Networks, a leading global provider of wireless solutions, to expand broadband coverage across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Cambium said demand for quality and high-speed connectivity by Tizeti’s customers has increased since the outbreak of COVID-19. The Lagos-based telco recently reached a major milestone when it delivered over 70,000 gigabit of broadband traffic per day to its subscribers using Cambium wireless networking technology.
"We are excited to have crossed this important network threshold in record time," said Kendall Ananyi, Founder and CEO at Tizeti. "This would have been impossible without Cambium's high-performance technology and disruptive economics."
With a population of over 200 million people, Nigeria has relatively low broadband penetration. According to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country's broadband penetration reached 39.58 per cent in February 2020. In April, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy launched the Nigerian National Broadband Plan 2020 – 2025, which targets 70 per cent broadband access in five years.
According to the Cambium statement, Tizeti is expanding its network using Cambium's cnPilot Wi-Fi access points with ePMP fixed wireless wide area distribution, and cnMaestro cloud-based management platform. The telco is also using Cambium’s wireless fabric solution to expand its operations in Ghana.
"Tizeti is at the vanguard of the data communications revolution sweeping across Africa," said Martín de la Serna, Cambium’s Regional Vice President of Europe, Middle East and Africa. "With their highly capital-efficient business model, Tizeti has rapidly deployed a complete Cambium wireless fabric solution in record time and under budget. We look forward to supporting their ongoing acceleration across Nigeria, Ghana, and beyond."
Last month, Tizeti partnered with Nokia to roll out the Finnish company’s LTE fixed wireless access (FWA) solution to deliver high-speed internet services in Nigeria. Tizeti is also an Express WiFi by Facebook partner. Express WiFi is a Wi-Fi service promoted by Facebook. It enables service providers to offer fast, affordable and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity as well as build, operate, grow, and monetise their networks.
Cambium said it is also an official partner for Express Wi-Fi. In this regard, it is working with service providers for rapid deployment of Express Wi-Fi.
