The Africa Medical, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Expo (Africa MedHealth Expo or AMHE) is set to take place on 14-15 March 2023 at Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the organiser of the event, TAB Group, the Africa MedHealth Expo 2023 aims to support the quest by African countries to reduce external dependencies and strengthen their pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. AMHE 2023 also aims to support the creation of a commercial networking hub for all the major stakeholders in the sectors’ value chains.
The event is being supported by Nigerian organisations including Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (Ogun State), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP), and Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria. Africa MedHealth Expo 2023 is also supported by the sub-regional institution, the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH).
In a statement sent to Financial Nigeria – a Media Partner to the event - TAB Group said the broad support the event enjoys will see participants from pharmaceuticals, medical equipment & services, medical technology and software, hospital development, and healthcare consulting to create new partnerships, harness new ideas, share best practices, and enable serious businesses to be done in a single place over the two days of the conference and expo.
“Africa is a region of great potentials with various healthcare reforms taking place in Nigeria,” said Mohhamad Talha Sarwar, Project Manager, AMHE 2023. “Pharmaceutical manufacturing sector of Nigeria has remained focused on the growth and expansion of drug manufacturing within the country.”
Sarwar said over $300 billion has been invested in the country’s pharmaceutical manufacturing, including machinery and quality upgrades, with the aim of ending drug importation. He also highlighted the fact that the country has in recent years implemented unprecedented and technology-driven healthcare reforms to address the healthcare needs of its growing population and reverse the dominant trend of dependency. These, he said, has created the foundation for industrial expansion in the sector.
The statement also said that Africa, despite being rich in resources, lacks efficient manufacturing units and technologies. This means there are exceptional opportunities for global companies to leverage and commercially tap the expansive prospects by bringing in their expertise to the region. The event will help investors and other stakeholders understand the gaps that exist in the region’s healthcare sector.
“Our goal is to bring all the healthcare and pharma ecosystem under one roof so that stakeholders can collaborate, network, and do business. Since Nigeria is providing a gateway to most recent developments, we have chosen it to be a perfect spot to host the show,” the statement concluded.
