Airtel Africa records broad growth in half year results

Airtel Africa has released its half year results for the period ended 30 September 2024. The pan-African mobile network operator said its sustained operating momentum reflects its continued execution against significant growth opportunity.
According to the report, total customer base grew by 6.1% to 156.6 million. Data customer penetration was on the increase, driving a 10.4% increase in data customers to 66.0 million. Data usage per customer increased by 30.9% to 6.6 GBs, with smartphone penetration increasing 5.3% to reach 42.9%.
Other highlights show mobile money subscribers of 41.5 million, increased by 13.4%. Airtel Africa says this reflects its continued investment into distribution to support increased financial inclusion across the company’s markets. Transaction value also increased by 30.1% in constant currency with annualised transaction value of $128 billion.
“The sustained operating momentum over the period is testament to our teams’ ability to execute our strategy brilliantly,” said Sunil Taldar, CEO of Airtel Africa, who also hinted that the company will build and scale up its B2B and home broadband business segments.
