Airtel Africa announces leadership changes at Airtel Nigeria

Dinesh Balsingh becomes the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Airtel Nigeria.
Airtel Africa, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries across Africa, today announced the appointment of Awuneba Ajumogobia FCA as Chairperson of the Board of Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel Nigeria), following the retirement of Justice Alfa Belgore JSC (Retired) after his ten-year tenure.
In addition, Airtel Nigeria has appointed Dinesh Balsingh as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following the resignation of Carl Cruz who is returning to the Philippines.
According to Airtel Africa, Mrs. Ajumogobia brings considerable experience in assurance, taxation, finance and advisory services across a range of industries in Nigeria and is currently serving as a non-executive director of the Airtel Africa Plc Board.The company said Ajumogobia’s experience as an independent non-executive director and Board Chair will bring an impartial judgement to issues of strategy, performance, and resources.
Mr. Balsingh has extensive experience across the telecommunications industry and returns to Nigeria following his appointment as Managing Director and CEO of Airtel Tanzania in 2022. Prior to his move to Tanzania, he served as the Chief Commercial Officer at Airtel Nigeria. He, therefore, brings a senior-level experience of the Nigerian telecommunications market.
Balsingh’s career in the telecommunications industry spans over 24 years having begun his career in 2000 with Hutchison Essar, before moving to Airtel India as a Marketing Director in 2006 and then Tata Docomo in 2011. He joined Airtel Nigeria as Marketing Director in 2013, before taking over as Chief Commercial Officer in 2018.
“Mrs. Ajumogobia’s experience and contribution to the Airtel Africa Plc Board will be extremely beneficial for Airtel Nigeria, and the Board looks forward to working with her,” said Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar, as he comments on the leadership changes. “In addition, Mr. Balsingh’s deep telecommunications experience and strong operational execution, combined with his knowledge of the Nigerian market, will be instrumental in further supporting our corporate purpose of transforming lives across Nigeria.
