Nestle Nigeria, the subsidiary of Swiss-based food giant, Nestle, has appointed Mauricio Alarcon as its new Managing Director, according to a statement released at the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Thursday.
Alarcon’s appointment takes effect on October 1st, as he succeeds Dharnesh Gordhon who has been transferred to Nestle Indonesia. Born in Mexico in 1973, Alarcon is currently the Managing Director of Nestle Atlantic Cluster, which covers Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Guinea, Gambia, Mauritania, and Cape Verde. He joined Nestle in 1999 and held several sales and marketing positions in the company’s ice cream businesses in Mexico, Switzerland, Australia, and Egypt.
In 2014, Alarcon was appointed Managing Director of Nestle Cote d’Ivoire, where he led a turnaround of the company’s business in the West African country that is also the world’s largest exporter of cocoa.
Nestle Nigeria is a leading manufacturer of food and healthcare products, including purified water, in Nigeria. The company also exports some products to other African countries. In the first half of the company’s 2016 financial year, Nestle Nigeria said revenues rose 22 percent year-on-year to N80.4 billion, while after-tax profit fell by 93 percent to N535.8 million due mainly to the impact of the naira devaluation on the company’s dollar-denominated debts.
