NDIC to host Africa's deposit insurance leaders in Abuja

The event will be formally opened by Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) will host the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Africa Regional Committee in Abuja from 20–23 July 2026, bringing together top financial sector leaders from across the continent for a high level dialogue on strengthening depositor protection and crisis readiness.
The four day event, themed “Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future,” is expected to convene chief executives, directors, regulators, and other stakeholders within Africa’s financial safety net architecture. Discussions will centre on improving public trust in deposit insurance systems and enhancing crisis management capabilities in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.
According to the NDIC, the programme will focus on practical strategies for building depositor confidence, improving communication during normal and crisis periods, and boosting coordination among financial sector institutions. Participants will also examine emerging risks such as fintech disruptions and cyber threats, with the goal of strengthening regional frameworks for rapid and effective crisis response.
The meeting will feature technical committee sessions, plenaries, and interactive roundtables covering crisis preparedness, system wide response operations, and simulation exercises designed to test institutional readiness.
The event will be formally opened by Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. Other dignitaries expected include Eva Hüpkes, IADI Secretary General, and Julia Oyet, Chairperson of the IADI Africa Regional Committee. The Chief Host is Thompson Oludare Sunday, Managing Director/Chief Executive of the NDIC.
