AfDB bans Nigerian construction company for malpractice

AfDB said ALG Global Concept Limited and its Managing Director engaged in numerous fraudulent practices in bidding for a construction contract.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced the debarment of ALG Global Concept Nigeria Limited, a construction company in Nigeria, and its Managing Director, Abuharaira Labaran Gero, for a period of 36 months.
According to a statement released by the AfDB on Wednesday, ALG Global Concept Limited and its Managing Director engaged in numerous fraudulent practices in bidding for a construction contract under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One in Nigeria (ATASP-1). The ATASP-1 is financed under the African Development Fund, an entity of the African Development Bank Group.
The AfDB’s Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption established that while participating in a tender for the construction of social infrastructure in Niger State, the construction company misrepresented its experience in conducting such construction contracts as well as by submitting false bid security.
The debarment, according to the statement, renders the company and its Managing Director ineligible to participate in AfDB-financed projects during the 36 months of the ban. It also qualifies for cross-debarment by other multilateral development banks, including the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank Group, under the Agreement for Mutual Recognition of Debarment Decisions.
