Vodafone, a British telecoms giant, and Afrimax Group, a telecoms company operating in sub-Saharan Africa, have signed a partner market agreement to offer high-speed 4G data services in Zambia.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the two companies will offer 4G services using the ‘Vodafone Zambia’ brand. The companies said the rollout of Vodafone Zambia for consumers will include the opening of Vodafone-branded retail stores and kiosks in key locations, bolstered by a network of distributors and resellers, and offering a full range of 4G handsets and devices.
“We are delighted that Zambia will be joining the Vodafone Partner Market community as the next stage in our agreement with Afrimax for sub-Saharan Africa. We look forward to bringing the best high-speed 4G data services to consumers and businesses in Zambia,” said Stefano Gastaut, Vodafone’s Partner Markets Chief Executive.
Under the Vodafone partner markets framework, the UK telecoms company partners with operators around the world to offer a range of its products and services in the operators' local markets.
Founded in 2010, Afrimax Group owns 4G licenses in 12 African countries including Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Malawi, Namibia, Central African Republic, Mali, Gambia, Togo, Guinea, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone.
In November 2014, Vodafone and Amsterdam-based Afrimax signed an agreement to explore potential partner market opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa. As part of the agreement, Vodafone and Afrimax have already partnered to launch 4G services in Uganda.
Lars Stork has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Zambia, which will be headquartered in Lusaka.
“Launching Vodafone Zambia is an exciting development for Afrimax and another big step towards our ambition of building the leading LTE focused operator in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Peter Langkilde, Afrimax Group CEO.
