- The multinational consumer goods company was certified as the Top Employer in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Kenya.
Unilever has been certified as the Top Employer in Africa for the third consecutive year, the company said in a statement released on Monday. The British-Dutch multinational consumer goods company was certified as the Top Employer in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Kenya.
Besides the Top Employer award, Unilever was also named as the No. 1 fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company in South Africa and the No. 1 manufacturing company in South Africa.
"Unilever was honoured by the Top Employer research for exceptional employee offerings and as an organisation which puts its people first and is dedicated to their personal and professional development. I would encourage more companies to participate and raise the bar on employment practices across the continent," said Mechell Chetty, Unilever Vice President, Human Resources.
The Top Employer in Africa certification is awarded by the Top Employers Institute, which conducts an annual international audit of leading employers around the world. The Dutch research firm assesses participating companies in nine key areas: talent strategy, workforce planning, on-boarding, learning and development, performance management, leadership development, career and succession management, compensation and benefits, and culture. Companies must operate in four or more countries to be considered for the Top Employers title and certification seal.
"Our extensive research concluded that Unilever Africa forms part of a select group of employers that advance employee conditions worldwide,” said Samantha Crous, Top Employers Institute’s Regional Director: Africa.
Unilever is one of the world's leading suppliers of food, home and personal care products with over 400 brands across 190 countries and reaching 2 billion consumers per day. The company has 169,000 employees and generated sales of €53.3 billion in 2015. In Africa, Unilever operates in over 19 countries with brands such Sunlight, OMO, Lux, Knorr, Vaseline, etc.
