The diaspora enrolment is aimed at providing a digital identity for Nigerians living outside the country and ensuring that they are not disenfranchised.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it will begin to enrol Nigerian adults and children residing in South Africa into the National Identity Database (NIDB) for the issuance of the National Identification Number (NIN).
The diaspora enrolment is aimed at providing a digital identity for Nigerians living outside the country and ensuring that they are not disenfranchised. The NIMC is a federal agency saddled with the responsibility of managing the NIBD, issuance of NIN and General Multipurpose Card (GMPC).
Beginning from Monday, March 4, appointments can be made via the Thebez Global Resources Limited (TGR) website, nin.thebezglobalresource.com while the NIN enrolment centre located at 205 Rivonia Road, Morningside, Sandton, Johannesburg, 2057, will open on Wednesday, March 6.
The flag off of the diaspora enrolment in South Africa is in collaboration with TGR, a licensed partner of the NIMC. In partnership with Cox & Kings Global Services Limited – a premium outsourcing partner for government and businesses across the globe – TGR will be enrolling Nigerians in diaspora by setting up enrolment centres in different countries.
According to a statement released by the NIMC on Friday, other countries are expected to come on board on the TGR platform after a successful pilot experience in South Africa.
“Six Nigerian companies have been licensed to work with their respective partners across all countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and America to enrol Nigerian adults and children in the diaspora into the National Identity Database,” said Aliyu Aziz, Director-General and CEO of the NIMC. “They will be issued the National Identification Number upon enrolment, and subsequently the General Multipurpose Card.”
He assured that the requisite standard, guidelines and regulations have been put in place to ensure effective implementation of the National Identity Management Systems (NIMS), as well as to provide the right platform for providing a digital identity for Nigerians, legal residents in Nigeria and Nigerians living diaspora.
In addition to TGR, the other licensed companies are Biosec Solutions Limited, CHAMS Consortium Limited, Defcon Systems Limited, National eAuthentication Limited and Venn Technology Limited.
