Nigeria’s internet users increase to 108.5 million

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reported that the number of internet users in the country increased marginally to 108.5 million in November, compared to 107,106,975 users recorded in the previous month.
The Monthly Internet Subscribers Data released by the NCC on Friday shows that internet users in Nigeria increased by 1,350,076. According to the data, Airtel, MTN and Globacom gained more internet subscribers during the month under review, while the data for 9mobile –10,058713 users – remained unchanged compared to the preceding month.
MTN increased its internet subscribers to 41,678,804 from 40,971,781 recorded in October; Airtel gained 438,560 new users to increase its internet subscribers to 28,958,253. Globacom gained 204,493 new internet users to increase its subscribers to 27,761,281 in November.
The telecommunications regulator also reported that total active mobile phone lines reached 169,104,830 in November, compared to 165,239,443 active lines recorded in the previous month.
According to the data, MTN has 40 per cent of the market share with 66,974,992 active users; Globacom, 26% with 43,273,188 active users; Airtel, 25% with 43,119,154; and 9mobile has 9 per cent of the market share with 15,361, 671 subscribers.
