MasterCard and Mobile Money Africa host CashlessAfrica conference in Lagos

- MasterCard said the CashlessAfrica Conference and Expo is a platform for technology companies, fintechs and other financial institutions to come together and share best practices on how to build a strong Nigerian economy.
Global payment solutions company, MasterCard, has announced that it is the headline sponsor of the upcoming 6th Edition of the CashlessAfrica Conference and Expo. Organised by Mobile Money Africa, the conference will take place at the Oriental Hotel in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, on March 22-23.
MasterCard said the CashlessAfrica Conference and Expo is a platform for technology companies, fintechs and other financial institutions to come together and share best practices on how to build a strong Nigerian economy.
The company said there is a huge potential for digital payments to make a tangible difference in Nigeria, where over 85% of retail transactions are still made in cash and cheques. Omokehinde Adebanjo, Vice President and Area Business Head of West Africa at MasterCard, will discuss the critical influence of partnerships in shifting economies beyond cash.
“Partnerships across multiple sectors and stakeholders is a fundamental component to ensuring cash is driven out of the system and that smart innovative, and financially inclusive, solutions are introduced,” said Adebanjo, who will be keynote speaker at the conference.
Principal Associate of Mobile Money Africa, Emmanuel Okoegwale said the conference discussions will focus on topics such as: The digital bank and its evolution in a competitive market; The future of banking, money and payments in Africa; Disruptive technologies and their impact on financial services in Africa; Balancing regulation against innovation; Remittances in the digital age; Fintechs and Banks: Collaboration or Competition?; Protecting the customer in a digitized economy.
“Our partnership with MasterCard is a demonstration of the technology company’s commitment to seeking better ways of promoting a cashless culture across Nigeria and globally,” said Okoegwale.
For MasterCard, the conference serves as an opportunity to foster mutually beneficial alliances between stakeholders who are dedicated to the development of a ‘World Beyond Cash.'
