Lucy Newman emerges Modern Governance 100 honoree

This year’s honorees include representatives across 18 countries, who were nominated by their peers and executive leadership.
Lucy Surhyel Newman, CEO of Africa Private Sector Summit (APSS), has been named as a 2024 Modern Governance honoree alongside 99 other leaders in governance, risk, compliance, audit, and ESG (environmental, social and governance) for “clarifying risk and elevating governance through purpose-driven, sustainable practices.”
Diligent, a leading GRC SaaS company, announced the honorees of the 2024 Modern Governance 100 on 24 September 2024, in New York. Now in its sixth year, the global recognition programme highlights the world’s top professionals for their dedication to helping organisations accelerate their mission and achieve excellence in governance practices.
This year’s honorees include representatives across 18 countries, who were nominated by their peers and executive leadership. The recipients represent companies across various sectors including Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors, Dell Technologies, Voices of Children, Pfizer, Sysco, Visa, American Express, Coca Cola Bottlers Business Services, Aspen School District, and more.
Newman, who was recognised in the ‘Mission Driven’ award category, said: "Doing the right things in the right way, while constructively collaborating with colleagues and as many stakeholder clusters as possible in a structured and transparent manner for the greater good, has been my motivation at various stages of my career.”
Newman was CEO of FITC and has senior banking and consulting experience.
