Clinton Foundation embroiled in accusations of unwholesome practices
Summary
The foundation is accused of using poverty in African countries as a public-relations tool.
Several accusations have been levelled against the Clinton Foundation, founded by former U.S. President Bill Clinton. The foundation is accused of using poverty in African countries as a public-relations tool for the Clinton family and for the celebrities who donate to it.
According to TeleSUR, a Latin-American TV network, the charity is also used to foster business deals on behalf of the former U.S. First Family and its associates. “The Clintons and celebrities conduct fly-by visits through African countries as a kind of ego parade of people pretending to care, with all attention on the “helpers” and none on the people of those countries,” the network said.
Earlier in April, the Clinton Foundation came under fire for not declaring tens of millions of dollars in foreign donations. The Foundation was also reported to have worked closely with a pharmaceutical company to distribute “drastically substandard” antiretroviral drugs to third world countries that had no chance of helping HIV and AIDs patients. Although it denies this allegation, the Foundation has admitted it has to do more on transparency.
