Buhari sacks Kachikwu as NNPC Group Managing Director, approves new board

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru as the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after removing Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu from the position.
According to a statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Monday, Buhari has also approved the composition of a new Board of NNPC.
Kachikwu, who was appointed as NNPC's Group Managing Director in August 2015, is now the Chairman of the national oil company. He also remains as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
Baru has a long-standing experience in the Upstream and Downstream Sectors of the NNPC, including being a former Group General Manager of Greenfield Refinery Projects, Managing Director of Hyson, and Executive Director of Nigerian Gas Company (NGC). He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a recipient of the Presidential Merit Award of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
