DiscoverTV allows BBM users to watch a variety of award-winning short-form shows ranging from movies, cartoons, and documentaries.
BBM, Blackberry's proprietary instant messenger and one of the largest mobile messaging applications in the world, has launched DiscoverTV – a mobile TV streaming service for the Nigerian market. The new video content, announced on Thursday, adds to the portfolio of BBM’s content and services offered in Nigeria, including News, Quickteller Airtime Top-up, Paycode (ATM & POS), Channels, Subscriptions and Stickers.
BBM, now run by Indonesian Creative Media Works, said DiscoverTV allows BBM users to watch a variety of award-winning short-form shows ranging from movies, cartoons, and documentaries. BBM said more shows and channels will be added every month.
“DiscoverTV is for everyone, whether you’re interested in soccer, kids, animals, food, cars, celeb, life, planet, extreme sports and home fitness,” said the mobile messaging company.
BBM users will enjoy the TV streaming service for free for the first one month, after which a nominal daily rate (to be announced soon), will be charged for unlimited access (excluding data).
DiscoverTV is 100% free of commercials and all clips can be viewed in their entirety without any interruptions, said the mobile messaging company – which has evolved into a social ecosystem unifying chat, social, commerce, services and contents.
With over one billion mobile subscribers in Africa, BBM said it has identified the continent as a priority focus and will continue to roll out new features for BBM users across the continent.
