Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other government officials in the state and at the federal level will join some private sector leaders to make presentations at the Lagos Real Estate Fest 2020 conference and exhibition. The two-day virtual live event will take place on September 29-30, according to a statement on Monday by Eventhive.ng, a Nigerian PR firm that is organising the event.

Apart from Sanwo-Olu, other speakers at the event will be Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji-Fashola; Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu Fatai; Managing Director of Lagos Development and Property Corporation, Dhikirullah Adedoyin Har-Yusuph; and CEO of Diversity Property, Sean Godoy.

In the statement sent to Financial Nigeria, a media partner to the conference and exhibition, Eventhive.ng said Lagos Real Estate Fest is a property-focused forum for learning, knowledge transfer and peer-to-peer networking. The event is expected to bring together thought leaders in the Nigerian property ecosystem to proffer solutions on tackling the country’s enormous housing challenges.

A 2012 survey showed that Nigeria had an estimated 17 million housing deficit. At the time, the country's population was around 170 million. As of 2020, Nigeria's population is estimated at 206 million, according to Worldometers. Experts estimate that the Nigerian housing deficit has since expanded. Other challenges in the industry include low mortgage penetration, which is said to be less than one per cent.

The event, which will be held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will provide a global platform for debate and action towards building Nigeria's real estate industry, according to Eventhive.ng. The PR firm also said the event is a platform to discuss public-private partnerships (PPPs) at state and federal government levels.

The key focus areas for the conference and exhibition will include property law, the future of the Nigerian office market, development of urban infrastructure, housing delivery and asset management, amongst others. Participants at the Lagos Real Estate Fest 2020 are expected to explore business opportunities within the real estate industry and learn how the industry is evolving given the rise of innovation – especially what policymakers are doing to support innovation and investment.

Apart from providing access to virtual networking opportunity, Eventhive.ng said that participants will also have access to virtual booths and opportunity for virtual brand exhibition. The event organiser said more information on sponsorship, speaking and exhibition opportunities can be obtained at www.lagosrealestatefest.com.
