Dangote denies being held hostage in Mali

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has dispelled rumours that he has been held hostage in the active hostage situation in Mali.
He sent a broadcast via his twitter handle, @AlikoDangote, saying, “Rumour about me being held hostage is false. I was in Mali yesterday. Thank you for your concern. My prayers with those involved.”
About 170 people, including many foreigners, were held hostage at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, the Malian capital, on Friday. A security source said as many as 10 gunmen stormed the hotel. Rumours were rife earlier that Africa’s richest man was among the hostages.
At least three people have been reported killed in the attack. At the time of this report, State television station reported that 80 hostages have been freed in the ongoing situation.
The identity of the Bamako gunmen is yet unknown.
