Organizers cancel Africa energy summit citing denial of U.S. visas

Failure to obtain visas for African invitees caused the cancellation of another U.S.-Africa summit in California in March.
The organizers of the U.S.-Africa Energy Summit have cancelled the event that was to take place in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, on September 18-19, 2017, citing problems securing U.S. visas for participants.
Citing a report by Business Daily Africa on Sept. 7, Stratfor – a U.S.-based global geopolitical analyst firm and partner publisher to Financial Nigeria – said it is unclear whether the U.S. State Department has reduced the number of visas it grants Africans since U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration in January.

Three African countries – Sudan, Libya and Somalia – were on the list of six Muslim-majority countries affected by the second travel ban by President Trump, which went into effect in June. The other three countries were Iran, Syria and Yemen.
