The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced a new partnership with the London-based Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) to provide training for CISI qualifications in Nigeria. Under the new partnership, NSE’s knowledge platform – X-Academy – will be accredited as CISI's training partner in Nigeria.

Launched by the NSE in June 2017, the X-Academy is designed to provide educational services to individuals for better understanding of various aspects of the capital markets. According to a statement by the Nigerian bourse released on Tuesday, the CISI qualifications that will be offered include International Certificate in Wealth and Investment Management, International Introduction to Securities and Investment (IISI) and Certificate in Derivatives. X-Academy will be offering both face-to-face and online training for these qualifications.

“CISI qualifications are fast becoming a benchmark across Africa, and this partnership is symbolic of Nigeria’s growing influence both within Africa and on the global stage,” said Helen Wilson, Assistant Director – Global Business Development at CISI. “We are delighted to partner with the Nigerian Stock Exchange to provide training for CISI’s internationally recognised qualifications in Nigeria, supporting the development of human capital within Nigeria capital markets.”

CISI – a global professional body for people working in the financial and investment industry – has been offering exams and membership across Africa since 2012. The professional body has over 45,000 members across 100 countries. Earlier in June, it opened its first African office in Kenya. And over the past 18 months, about 3,500 CISI examinations have been written across the continent.

“This partnership is a testament to the years of investment we have made in pushing the boundaries of financial education and stimulating investors’ participation in the Nigerian capital market,” said Pai Gamde, Chief Human Resource Officer at the NSE.

CISI is also an Associate Member of the Africa Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) in a partnership expected to promote professionalism and develop channels for capacity building and knowledge sharing to support the growth of the capital markets profession in Africa.
