MTN Nigeria, the Nigerian subsidiary of MTN Group – Africa’s largest telecom company by subscribers – has launched a partner programme to drive enterprise growth in the country. The programme was launched at the inaugural MTN Fusion Summit held yesterday at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

MTN partner programme is geared towards using partnerships to deliver benefits of a modern connected future to the end-user. The partner programme will enable local and global partners, including thought-leaders, small and medium enterprises, large enterprises and the public sector, to become part of the MTN Business solutions offering.

“We know that we cannot be the subject-matter expert in every field in ICT. Thus, we believe strongly in partnering with other like-minded companies,” said Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria. “We are building a vibrant ecosystem of partners that share our ethos and values to empower SMEs, drive efficiencies for large enterprises and work with the public sector to improve citizen engagement.”

She added that the partners will bring the needed technology and platforms to co-create new solutions or share their unique expertise and competencies in developing solutions that drive growth and increase market reach.

The summit, which will hold annually, provides a platform for the telecom company to bring together extant and new partners, and to share the operating model and structure of the partner programme.

According to a statement by MTN Nigeria, the ecosystem of partners includes technology, capability and channel partners. The technology partners provide information and communication technology and other complementary technology solutions and services. The capability partners provide complementary value chain competencies, while the channel partners expand access to market.

Speaking at the summit, Chika Ekeji, Associate Principal at McKinsey, revealed that Nigerian enterprise business is worth $2 billion, adding that the market provides vast opportunities for partners.

In its financial result for the period ended September 30, 2018, released recently, MTN Group reported a 17.4 percent year-on-year increase in service revenue and added 2.5 million subscribers to reach 225.4 million users during the same period.

Since August 2018, there has been a dispute between the telecom company and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over $8.1 million allegedly repatriated illegally. On Friday, The CBN met with the four lenders alleged to have aided the illegal repatriation, namely Diamond Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Citibank and Standard Chartered.

The CBN had fined Standard Chartered N2.4 billion over the fund transfer; Stanbic IBTC Bank, N1.8 billion; Citibank N1.2 billion; and Diamond Bank, N250 million.
