The Board of Directors of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has announced the appointment of Dr Lars Richter as its new Managing Director to replace Engr. Wolfgang Goetsch. The construction company also announced the expansion of its executive management team, which will include a new Directorate of Corporate Development to be led by Tobias Meletschus. The changes are effective from October 16.

The outgoing Managing Director, Goetsch, has worked with the company for 27 years, and served as the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc since July 2016.

Last month, the Board of Directors had notified the Nigerian Stock Exchange and its shareholders of these developments after a board meeting on September 25.

According to a statement released by Julius Berger on Tuesday, these changes were necessary due to the continuous growth and strategic demands of the company with respect to its portfolio of building, infrastructure and industrial construction projects, and in light of its diversification and development targets.

The new Managing Director, Richter, holds a Doctorate degree in Civil Engineering. He also has vast operational experience and broad technical knowhow. He has worked with the company for 16 years, and until his appointment, he has served as Site Manager, Project Manager and Division Manager. In the past ten years, Richter managed the acquisition, operations and successful completion of major and challenging projects across Nigeria.

Meletschus, the new Director of Corporate Development, holds a master’s degree in Commercial Law and a degree in Business Law. Since 2012, he has held the position of Head of Business Development with Julius Berger, leading diversification strategies and related business plans, as well as the assessment and successful negotiation of large-scale projects.

Since its pioneer project in Nigeria in 1965 – the construction of Eko Bridge in Lagos – Julius Berger has been a leading construction company playing a pivotal role in the development of Nigeria’s industrial and civil infrastructure.
