DHL Express, a division of the German logistics company, Deutsche Post DHL, has been awarded the Top Employer in Africa certification for the fifth consecutive year by the Top Employers Institute, a global certification company that recognises world’s leading employers.

The Top Employers Institute assesses human resource strategy, policy implementation, practices and employee offerings to reveal whether a company provides exceptional employee conditions, develops talent on all levels and demonstrates leadership by optimising the development of its employees and employee practices.

The international courier company received 22 certifications in 21 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, D.R. Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Morocco, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The company also won the Intercontinental Award for having most Top Employer certifications in the continent.

DHL International Nigeria Limited, a division of DHL Express, was awarded the 2019 Top Employer Nigeria certification. Other companies certified as Top Employers in the country are EY Nigeria, Unilever Nigeria Plc., Phillip Morris Limited, Novartis Nigeria Limited, JTI Nigeria (Habanera Limited), Dow Industrial Chemical Products Nigeria Ltd and British American Tobacco Nigeria.

According to a statement by DHL Express released on Tuesday, the award was received at the 2019 Top Employer Africa Certification Ceremony, which held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Thursday.

“We value our employees and constantly strive to ensure they know how much their work matters. We also want them to feel proud to be part of the global DHL team,” said Hennie Heymans, CEO of DHL Express – Sub-Saharan Africa. “We couldn’t be happier to have that fact affirmed by the Top Employers Institute.”

He attributed the achievement to the customer-centric culture adopted across the entire organisation. Heymans said, “Effective employee engagement programs are integral to maintaining this culture across the globe as it is the people within our business that ensure this culture carries across to our customers.”

Founded in 1969, DHL Express provides international express mail service delivery around the world. The company employs over 325,000 employees worldwide.

The Top Employers Institute conducts comprehensive and independent research by getting employees to complete a survey on best practices in human resource. Every completed survey is then reviewed by the Institute and the process is audited by a third party. Thereafter, qualified organisations receive the Top Employers title and certification seal.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Netherlands, the Top Employers Institute is a community of more than 1,300 Top Employers across 115 countries, and positively impacting the lives of over five million employees.
